Some schools hire dance choreographers to choreograph the moves. According to Tracy, a former school staff person who approves what the choreographer suggests as being hip, in, she stated that two students may be asked to execute the same numbers. Depending on their motivation and what they put into it, the results may be different. She even said that she would not let her own daughter go on a tryout for the few spots that exist on the cheer squad.

Tracy was was the cheerleading supervisor. She was walking a fine line between the school's administrator and what cheerleaders' parents want. The competition can sometimes get the best of the parents to the chagrin of the other parents whose daughters are not on the cheer squad. After the execution of a few numbers, some parents blurt it out, "These cheers are nasty." On various occasions, Tracy had to pull the plug on a few dance moves she judged "too overly sexual or explixit."

Having worked at various schools for many years, she is encouraging girls to get on the basketball, volleyball or any other sports team or focus on their academics if the want to get a scholarship.

Tracy had to explain some of the cheers to many non-cheerleader parents who are very conservative in their views. Due to the impact of hip hop on the cheer music, many unpopular moves that a school chaperone would not approve tend to infiltrate the cheer music numbers.

Despite all the controversy created mostly by parents who don't approve such suggestive dances, come tryout times, hundreds of students want to be on the cheerleading teams. Anywhere from 400 to 500 girls are trying out for 20 spots.

What's Tracy's advice? Cheerleaders' parents should take it easy. They should invest so much of themselves into cheering. Some school principals and administrators think some parents' behaviors when it comes to extracurricular activities such as sports and cheerleading are excessive. Some of thes behaviors even border the illegal realms.

Now, we must give credit to the President for enjoying a great moment with the champions of the Northwestern University Lacrosse team. If people over 45 used to frown on flip flops which most young men and women under the age of 25 wear almost all the time, they can take heart or redirect their views elsewhere. The White House released the picture showing at least four young women wearing the flip flops which end up causing the flip flop flap controversy of the Summer.

No, it’s not the heat waves that are killing people and causing others to go to the beaches that Chicagoans are talking about. A certain group of Chicago residents are mad over the athletes going to the Nation’s house wearing flip flop sandals. Little do they know that the President that these young women went to see has a cool mind! He once was a student, a cheerleader, a businessman who toiled in the heat of Texas. How many nights did he find solace wearing his favorite pair of flip flops? Therefore, he would not take offense if he saw the athletes wearing them. He was more interested in celebrating with them. For a long time, young men and women have been wearing flip flops to various events. They wear them to classes, churches, concerts. It’s the new style of the beach-loving surfer-dude, t-shirt and short-wearing wash-board stomach hot bodies descending on the best beaches of the country.

Seriously, people, flip flops have been more popular than those who frown on them would ever believe.

I spent 6 days paying close attention to the footwear of shoppers and beach goers in various spots. In the stuffing, stifling heat of California Summer months, I was having a good time with a slurpee while my kids were enjoying cones of ice cream before we went in to watch some movies. We sat in front of Borders while engaging in people gazing and footwear watch. We started counting the flip flop sandals worn by the passersby. We counted so many of them that we became tired quickly. Teenagers wear flip flops everywhere. Some with spiky hair were wearing them with ripped jeans. They were accompanied by their mothers. They had adopted what’s in. The surfer attitude and style are in.

There’s no doubt that flip flops have long entered the realms of the chic. The next time you read about them, you will read a review about the Prada-gold-adorned flip flop sold exclusively at places such as Bergdorf in Manhattan or designer boutiques. Seriously, folks, flip flop designers have to make a few bucks. We are not talking about the new outfits that reveal the bare midriff. Parents are already mad over the fact that their teenager sons or daughters want to wear their sandals to churches, wedding ceremonies and important social functions.

Flip flops make you feel like you are on vacation. They make you believe you are relaxing. It looks like you are on a constant beach. The flip flops are indicators that you want to take a break from whatever was bothering you. You want to turn to new, fresh pages. That’s why you will find kids wearing from San Diego to Santa Monica beaches. Stars and big-name athletes have been wearing them for quite sometime.

Wear your flip flops to show that the beach is with you wherever you go. The beach has become a mindset. It’s in your mind and between your toes. Even if you are in the middle of the heat waves because you’ve been stuck for hours in traffic, you can transport yourself to the best beaches in your mind. However, job coaches or career professionals will advise interns not to wear them this Summer. They’ll advise employees not to wear them either if they don’t want their employers to be mad at them.

Most flip flops are made in China. They are only shoes. They were once called thongs until this name became the name of another outfit covering a different part of the body. Even Jesus is depicted as a flip flop wearer. We are not defining politicians’ flip flops. We are talking about shoes that you can buy at Target, Wal-Mart and other stores.

So if it’s Summer, we know it’s time to wear flip flops. People, it’s hot out there!
